Meet with us on campus or on the road

On campus, one can certainly feel an increasing calm as the end of the school year approaches but also a palpable air of excitement with the arrival of spring and the various ceremonies to celebrate our graduates.

If you have not had a chance to visit campus during the school year and you’re interested in experiencing Booth for yourself, including sitting in on a class and connecting with current students over lunch, be sure to register for a full campus visit by Friday, June 7! Beginning on Monday, June 10, through the end of September, we will offer abbreviated campus visits that include an information session and building tour led by an Admissions staff member. The full campus visit schedule will resume after classes begin in the fall.

Don’t think you’ll be able to visit campus soon? Another great opportunity to learn more about Booth this summer is by attending our Student-Hosted Events. Our students will be hosting informal gatherings all over the world to provide prospective candidates with the unique opportunity to get to know them and Booth better in an informal setting. Please check back in June for the schedule of Student-Hosted Events. Given the intimate nature of these events, registration may be limited, so be sure to register as early as possible.

Also starting soon our team will be traveling across the globe from June to October to host Full-Time MBA Admissions Information Sessions for prospective candidates. For some events, staff from the Career Services team and other Booth MBA Programs will be present as well. We hope to see many of you at one of our Information Sessions, as they are a great way to gain a deeper understanding of the differentiating value of a Chicago Booth MBA, while connecting with vital members – alumni and current students – of our community. Also, we will be participating in various educational fairs and forums. If you happen to be at those events, please stop by our table to chat!

Feel free to contact us with any questions. We look forward to seeing you this summer!

Best,

Amy

I Believe in Pink

Photo: Booth staff wear pink for the OUTreach LPF!

Pink drinks. Pink cake pops.  Pink everything.   Attending Booth’s weekly happy hour, LPF, last week, you couldn’t mistake the fact that something pink was happening.  And it was.  Booth’s OUTreach group (LGBTQ students and allies) sponsored the LPF to promote their upcoming PINK party on May 18th.  A premier school-wide social event, the PINK party raises awareness about the LGBTQ community at Booth, encourages ally support, and raises funds for the Safe Schools Alliance.   To help rally excitement about the event, Booth students will be dressing up in drag and competing for the esteemed title of “Miss or Mister Booth 2013”.  And as a judge for this highly competitive event, I’m going to have my work cut out for me this weekend!

But the PINK Party is just one of the many things that OUTreach does during the year.   Part of my role within Admissions is working on LGBTQ initiatives, and I’m very fortunate to work closely with OUTreach. Coming from a variety of industries and geographies, these students work to build community and awareness surrounding LGBTQ issues, as well as advance social and professional opportunities for its members and allies. Most recently, OUTreach has been hard at work with new initiatives, as well as enhancing existing programming. Some of the highlights include:

* Co-Organizing the 2013 Reaching Out MBA Conference.  Chicago Booth students have been hard at work planning the next Reaching Out MBA Conference with students from Kellogg and Haas, which is the annual conference of LGBTQ graduate business school students. This year, we anticipate over 1,000 students will attend the conference in New Orleans, LA.

* Ally support at Booth. Over 450 Booth students signed the ally pledge in 2012 and agreed to have a rainbow ribbon posted on their locker.  This subtle but powerful show of support is now visible to all students and visitors who see the locker room.

* OUTreach-specific recruiting events.
In addition to community-building and support activities, a major programming focus of OUTreach is recruiting events.  They host a variety of events each fall with top MBA employers that are specifically targeted for LGBTQ students. These events are an amazing way to network with companies and learn more about their diversity initiatives.

* Prospective student support. OUTreach regularly hosts group and individual lunches for prospective students visiting campus to share their experiences at Booth, as well as individual phone calls and emails to answer questions and discuss life at Booth and in the city of Chicago. Their next group lunch  will occur on Friday, May 17th. You can also email OUTreach members directly at: Outreach-co-chairs@lists.chicagobooth.edu

If you are interested in learning more about OUTreach, the group’s website includes information for prospective students, profiles of current students, as well as contact information. Additionally, I am happy to serve as a resource on the admissions side, and you can contact me at carrie.lydon@chicagobooth.edu

All the best!
Carrie

Round Three Update for Waitlist

Last week marked the end of our Round Three interviews, which means we are moving closer to making decisions for both Round Three and waitlisted candidates.  For all candidates, we know that the waiting period is difficult, and for those on the waitlist, there may also be some questions about what happens between now and the decision deadline.

Now that interviews have concluded, we are now evaluating our Round Three and Waitlist candidates for admission.   For waitlisted candidates, we will be reviewing your applications, as well as any updates, materials and videos you submitted in April.  If you have new updates that you would like to submit, you are welcome to do so through the admissions application system.  However, since we are in the final review process, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that they will be received in time to be included.

We will be releasing decisions to all waitlisted candidates on May 23, our Round 3 final decision date.   At that time, you could be admitted to the Class of 2015, continue on the waitlist into the summer months, or denied admission this year.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your patience and interest in Chicago Booth!
